Toxic Tanneries

Watching children splashing and swimming in the filthiest water I’ve ever seen (if can even be classified as water), overflowing with garbage and coloured black, is not what I envision for the people living on the other side of the world. When looking at the conditions of the environment these people must endure because the government is utterly useless in regulating the treatment of waste-water (which is completely non-existent), it breaks my heart. The life expectancy is only 40 years of age. Over half of the population is under the age of 17. The edge of the river is lined with animal fat, cuttings and a plethora of garbage. Care to take a dip? How about a drink? Human Rights Watch and Al Jazeera give us a view, not soon to be forgotten:
